Gam 4.0: Torino's Modern Art Gallery Reimagined with Underground Expansion
The Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Gam) in Turin, established in 1959, is gearing up for a major makeover called 'Gam 4.0'. This project, spearheaded by MVRDV's Winy Maas and Bertrand Shippan, along with Balance Architettura's Alberto Lessan and Jacopo Bracco, plus EP&S Group's Elena Bo, aims to bring the museum back to its former glory while adding a new underground exhibit space. The plan features a transparent 'civic square' created by taking down outer walls and a glass walkway connecting the museum to the Polytechnic and OGR. Funded by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo with €27.5 million, the renovations will improve exhibit areas and reintroduce skylights. The construction is expected to wrap up by summer 2027.
