Galina Munroe: The Quiet Architecture of Care

Galina Munroe (b. 1993) is a French-British artist based in London who transforms overlooked everyday objects—flowers, bottles, bags, tools—into emotionally charged paintings. Her practice incorporates collage and stitched elements, building canvases through layered processes of addition, removal, and reconstruction. Since returning to London in 2025, her recent works focus on the body in relation to domestic and studio spaces, capturing transitional moments like carrying materials or pausing between tasks. Munroe's education includes a BA from the European Academy of Art in Brittany (2014) and an MA from Central Saint Martins in London (2016). She has had solo exhibitions at JARILAGER Gallery (Cologne and Seoul), PIERMARQ (Sydney), BRICKS Gallery (Copenhagen), UNION Gallery (London), COUNTY Gallery (Palm Beach), and Gallery RPH (Madrid). Her work balances figuration and abstraction, using ambiguity to encourage slow looking and emotional resonance. Sewing and collage extend her interest in care, repair, and domestic labour, while oil paint is applied slowly over extended periods. Munroe's art repositions domestic motifs—often dismissed as minor—as subjects of serious formal inquiry, demonstrating that familiarity does not diminish complexity.
