Galerie nationale du design opens in Saint-Étienne with 400 objects from national collections

In Saint-Étienne, France, the Galerie nationale du design has officially opened its doors within the historic Manufacture d'armes, which is part of the Cité du design. The first exhibition, titled 'Design en main. Du langage à l’objet', is available from June 11 to March 7 and showcases nearly 400 items from national collections, including those from the Centre Pompidou and the MAMC+. Curated by Laurence Mauderli, the exhibit delves into the connection between hands and objects through six idiomatic phrases. The gallery spans a renovated 1,500-square-meter space designed by SILT, utilizing raw materials and sustainable methods. Éric Bacqué's scenography features modular poplar cubes. Additionally, a concurrent exhibition, 'Créer un vase', will run from April 29 to September 20, highlighting Saint-Étienne's rise as a design hub since the late 1990s.
