Galeria Galatea mounts Edival Ramosa survey in São Paulo

Galeria Galatea presents 'Edival Ramosa: Alfabeto solare', a solo exhibition of the late Brazilian artist Edival Ramosa (1940–2015). Curated by André Pitol, the show brings together paintings, sculptures, objects, and drawings spanning nearly five decades. Many works were previously held in private collections in Brazil and abroad, and some were featured in the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, which marked a recent critical revival of Ramosa's practice. The artist's time in Africa and Europe during the 1960s and 1970s deeply influenced his constructivist style, incorporating optical games and urban references through materials like enameled wood, stainless steel, and acrylic. His recurring motifs—spheres, cocoons, moons, comets, suns—evolved to include Indigenous and Afro-Brazilian aesthetics from the 1970s onward, using straw, hides, feathers, beads, and bamboo. The exhibition opens June 9, 2026, from 6 to 9 PM at Galatea's Oscar Freire branch, running through August 8, 2026.
