Gagosian to Stage Major Magritte Exhibition in London This September

This September, Gagosian will host a significant exhibition dedicated to René Magritte in London, showcasing approximately 70 pieces from the Belgian Surrealist alongside numerous contemporary artists. Entitled "This Is Still Not a Pipe: The Afterlife of Magritte," the exhibition is scheduled from September 24 to December 12 at Gagosian's Grosvenor Hill venue. Curated by Jasper Sharp and Bernard Lagrange of Gagosian Art Advisory, this event marks two decades since LACMA's "Magritte and Contemporary Art: The Treachery of Images" (2006–07), designed by John Baldessari. The exhibition will feature over 20 works by Magritte, some available for purchase and others on loan, including "La Lampe philosophique." Sharp highlighted that the aim is to establish conceptual links rather than direct visual parallels, as Magritte's market continues to thrive with auction sales reaching $312.3 million in 2024.
