Gagosian Director Georgina Cohen Curates Group Show at Château La Coste

Georgina Cohen, a London-based Gagosian director and collector, has organized the exhibition "Rashid, Sheree and Friends" opening July 5 at Château La Coste in Provence. The show brings together works by the creative community of former artist couple Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian, who will also present solo exhibitions in two other spaces on the estate. Hovsepian is debuting her most ambitious sculptures to date: eight-foot-tall bronze figures she calls "pregnant Giacomettis." Johnson will exhibit a custom bronze table shaped like an almond, a recurring motif in his paintings, alongside a video featuring three generations of his family. Cohen, who joined Gagosian in 2006 after being recruited by Larry Gagosian, has curated shows at Château La Coste since 2022. The property, opened in 2011 by Irish hotelier Paddy McKillen, has become a sentimental place for Cohen, "like a home away from home." Cohen previously commissioned artist Joel Mesler to create a painting for McKillen, which led to Mesler's invitation to exhibit at the estate. Cohen's career at Gagosian has spanned 20 years, during which she transitioned from PR and events to special projects and advisory. She reflects that the art world has grown "almost too big for itself" and values preserving intimacy in her work.
