Gabion: From Erosion Control to Gallery Plinth in Contemporary Design

Key projects include Wolfgang Buttress's 'The Hive' in a botanic garden, where gabions form seating that blends into the landscape; a 4-meter freestanding gabion wall at Kuwait's Al Shaheed Park prayer room, supported by steel posts; gabion cladding at a Nestlé Waters site in Buxton; curved gabion facades at Pwllheli Sailing Club in Wales; and use as demountable plinths by artist collective Exhibition247 in 'Echoes of Presence' at Brompton Cemetery, London. At Trent Valley Crematorium in Derby, face stones are hand-positioned for a refined finish. The material's versatility extends to everyday applications like seating, retaining walls, and planters.
