From Here to the Horizon: Photographs in Honor of Barry Lopez Opens at UCR ARTS

The California Museum of Photography at UCR ARTS has debuted the exhibition 'From Here to the Horizon: Photographs in Honor of Barry Lopez,' marking its West Coast premiere. This showcase, organized by the Barry Lopez Foundation for Art & Environment and the Sheldon Museum of Art, features 50 photographers responding to Lopez's call to reflect on the American landscape. Barry Lopez (1945–2020), who won the National Book Award for 'Arctic Dreams' (1986), dedicated over five decades to exploring the connection between humanity and nature. The exhibition includes works by notable artists such as Robert Adams and Virginia Beahan, and each photograph is linked to a geographical term from Lopez's 'Home Ground: A Guide to the American Landscape' (2006). Curated by Toby Jurovics, the event is supported by an illustrated catalogue (Trinity University Press, 2023), with Kathryn Poindexter-Akers serving as the coordinating curator for UCR ARTS.
