French Photographer Tanguy Sergheraert's Spontaneous Joshua Tree Project

French photographer Tanguy Sergheraert traveled to Los Angeles at the end of last year for a month-long stay without specific plans, aiming to draw inspiration from the city and surrounding landscapes. He had previously visited California five years earlier, and vivid memories prompted his return with a fresh photographic perspective. Accompanied by friend Andrey Tarasov, Sergheraert focused on Joshua Tree National Park, a location he describes as having unique energy and a suspended atmosphere where time seems to stop. Their goal was to capture the landscape with a particular visual approach, seeking a vintage vehicle to incorporate into their compositions. After unsuccessful attempts, they discovered an old red pickup truck parked along a remote road in Twentynine Palms. They approached the owners and learned the vehicle was out of fuel. A spontaneous agreement was reached: Sergheraert and Tarasov would provide gasoline in exchange for permission to photograph with the truck. Using emptied water containers, they obtained fuel and returned to complete the arrangement. The resulting images, taken in the truck bed under California light, evoke a cinematic American aesthetic. The incident occurred on Godwin Road, a detail that adds to the narrative's resonance. This episode reflects Sergheraert's project ethos, blending spontaneity, serendipitous beauty, and landscapes that convey deeper stories.
