French Film on de Gaulle Becomes Summer Box Office Hit

The biographical movie 'La Bataille de Gaulle' has emerged as the top French film of the summer in France, with ticket sales surpassing 5.3 million. It successfully competed against Christopher Nolan's 'Odissea', which sold 7.3 million tickets, and a new Spider-Man installment, largely due to positive word-of-mouth. Directed by Antonin Baudry, the film depicts Charles de Gaulle's journey from general to the leader of Free France between June 1940 and 1944. Although the first segment, 'L'Âge de fer', started slowly, it picked up pace, while the second segment, 'J'écris ton nom', released in early July, continued to perform well. Cinema chains Pathé and UGC have extended its screenings through September. Its depiction of de Gaulle's interactions with Franklin D. Roosevelt reflects ongoing transatlantic tensions.
