Frankfurt Women's Theater Festival Marks 10 Years with Feminist Democracy Focus

The International Women's Theater Festival (IF*TF) in Frankfurt am Main will celebrate its tenth anniversary from September 14 to 20, 2026, with a week-long program of theater, performances, dance, live music, video art, exhibitions, workshops, discussions, and children's activities, all created by women*. The festival's central theme is feminist democracy, exploring the intersections of participation, equality, and power. It aims to address diverse life realities, including gender, origin, class, and power, and to envision more just and pluralistic democratic spaces. Through art, the festival seeks to make democracy tangible and to highlight new pathways for inclusion, care, and resilience, giving a platform to queer and anti-racist perspectives. Highlights of the program include "Diaspora – A Contemporary Tragedy" by antagon theaterAKTion and Ondadurto Teatro, which reinterprets Euripides' "The Trojan Women" as a tale of war, displacement, and migration, told from the perspectives of women*, refugees, and bystanders through dance, physical theater, and live music. Additionally, "Female World Music" features a concert by Kick La Luna, and "Domina" by Ondadurto Teatro combines opera and physical theater to retell Verdi's great female characters from "La Traviata," "Otello," "Macbeth," and "Aida" from a queer perspective. The festival is organized by women* and will take place in Frankfurt, Germany.
