François Morellet's centenary installation at Italy's smallest municipality

The Casa dell’Arte di Morterone, the smallest municipality in Italy by population (31 residents), celebrates the centenary of François Morellet's birth with the installation La porte s'envole (2012). The work, a neon intervention on a house facade, alters the perception of a doorway by tilting its luminous perimeter, creating a visual disorientation reminiscent of Magritte's L'Empire des lumières. The project is part of a diffuse art network initiated in 1985 by poet Carlo Invernizzi and his children in Morterone, Lecco province. Invernizzi's poetry, which engages with perception and language, has been linked to Morellet's work since a 2003 exhibition at Palazzo Trivulzio in Melzo. Morellet's practice balances programmed series with unique formal appearances, a dialectic echoed in Invernizzi's tension between audible word and inexpressible sensation. The installation exemplifies a 'poiesis' that regenerates the experience of reality through the impact of place and logos.
