Francisco Moreno's First Museum Solo Show at Dallas Contemporary

Dallas Contemporary presents 'Francisco Moreno: Historia sintética', the artist's first museum solo exhibition, curated by Thomas Feulmer and on view until August 30. The show traces Moreno's career chronologically, from early works like 'Eagle' (2012) with its alebrije-inspired brushstrokes to the large-scale narrative paintings and installations that define his practice. Key works include 'WCD Project' (2015), which reimagines Emanuel Leutze's 'Washington Crossing the Delaware' with dazzle camouflage on a Datsun 280Z, and the five-panel 'Mural Cycle' (2024-2026) inspired by a forthcoming book by his uncle Jorge Moreno. Moreno, who moved from Mexico City to Arlington in 1992 at age 6, explores themes of cultural identity, belonging, and the experience of being 'in between' two cultures. The exhibition also features the 'In Pursuit' series (2020), created under time constraints to avoid overthinking, and squirrel paintings that humorously address serious realities. Moreno's layered compositions combine past, present, and future, weaving personal and global narratives.
