Francesca Polizzi's 'Lunaria' at RizzutoGallery: Ruins and Raw Wool

RizzutoGallery in Palermo presents 'Lunaria', a solo exhibition by Sicilian artist Francesca Polizzi (b. 1988, Palermo). The show features sculptures and wall works that explore themes of ruins, decay, and transformation through materials like raw felted wool, brass, bronze, and ceramics. A centerpiece is 'Volta', a large white sculpture in iron, wool, and plaster that inverts a vaulted ceiling. Polizzi also debuts her first ceramic works in the installation 'Elegia', where wool is used as a binder that burns away during firing, leaving impressions. The exhibition title references the Lunaria annua plant, whose dried seed pods resemble small moons. Polizzi created brass and bronze branches mimicking the plant. The show includes wall pieces using digital printing, encaustic, and rust inks on wool felt, depicting caves and geological formations. Artist Daniele Franzella contributed a text for the exhibition. The show runs until June 20, 2026.
