Fotografiska brings landmark photography exhibition to Lofoten's Nusfjord
Fotografiska, the Stockholm-based photography institution, will mount a landmark exhibition in Nusfjord, Norway, from 20 March to 31 October 2026, ahead of its permanent Oslo opening in 2027. The show is split across two historic sites: at Salteriet gallery, Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi presents 'A faraway shining star, twinkling in hand', focusing on life's small moments and temporality; in an old power station, Elizaveta Porodina's 'The Wall People' features dreamlike images evoking the region's mythology. The exhibition is part of a broader cultural boom in the Lofoten Islands, where fishing heritage is being complemented by contemporary art. Other cultural venues include KaviarFactory in Henningsvær (exhibiting Warhol, Munch, Melgaard) and Trevarefabrikken, a former fish processing plant turned gig venue. The Skrei museum in Storvågan, dedicated to Arctic cod, is set to debut later in 2026, designed by LPO Arkitekter. Nusfjord Village & Resort owner Caroline Krefting noted the contrasts of raw nature and refined art. Fotografiska CEO Bárbara García stated that photography should travel as far as curiosity does. The region also features Artscape Nordland's five site-specific sculptures and a sculptural spa designed by Oslo School of Architecture and Design students.
