Former Turnstile Guitarist Arrested for Attempted Murder of Bandmate's Father
Brady Ebert, a founding member of the Baltimore hardcore punk band Turnstile, was arrested on Tuesday in Silver Spring, Maryland. He faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. The arrest follows an incident on Sunday where Ebert allegedly struck William Yates, the 79-year-old father of Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates, with his vehicle. According to police reports, the altercation began when Ebert drove to the Yates residence, honking his horn and shouting obscenities. After leaving, he reportedly returned and accelerated his car toward William Yates, who attempted to avoid the vehicle and threw a rock. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Ebert swerving to hit Yates, causing significant lower body injuries. Following the collision, Ebert is said to have returned once more, yelling that Yates deserved it. William Yates underwent surgery for severe physical trauma. In a statement to Pitchfork, Turnstile expressed hope for his recovery and detailed that they severed ties with Ebert in 2022 due to a pattern of harmful behavior and threats of violence. The band, formed in 2010, gained mainstream recognition with their 2021 album 'Glow On,' which earned Grammy nominations. They recently won Grammys in February 2026 for metal performance and rock album. Turnstile is scheduled to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival later this month.
