Forensic Architecture and Giles Price Expand the Documentary Image in War and Colonial Investigations
The Impact Kyiv: Forum of War and Conflict Photography will showcase Giles Price's series, Phantom Pro, from 15 to 18 October 2026. This collection emerged from a 2017 assignment by The New York Times Magazine, which tasked Price with documenting civilian deaths resulting from misdirected coalition airstrikes in Mosul, Iraq. To capture his images, Price employed a 12-meter telescopic pole and subsequently a drone, while training Iraqi videographer Ayar Rasool through WhatsApp. According to Amnesty International, the nine-month conflict led to as many as 10,000 civilian fatalities. Forensic Architecture, located at Goldsmiths, University of London, utilizes sophisticated mapping techniques to reconstruct incidents such as the 17 October 2023 explosion in Gaza and the 2011 shooting of Mark Duggan.
