Foreign Policy Design Wraps SIPF Identity Around a Shutter-Split Grid

architecture-design · 2026-10-21

In its 7th iteration, the Singapore International Photography Festival has adopted a unique identity designed by Foreign Policy Design, where the festival's logotype encircles each image. The theme for 2020/2021, Departing & Arriving, emphasizes migration and personal narratives within Singapore's history, as articulated by Festival Director Gwen Lee. The design approach incorporates editorial layouts that link captions with visuals, even dividing a grotesque wordmark mid-word. The Festival Guide features a blush-sand cover adorned with dark forest-green text surrounding Michelle Chan's photograph Koufu, along with isometric floorplan maps for the 37 Emerald Hill venue. The color scheme draws inspiration from artists like William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, and Saul Leiter. The event was postponed from August 2020 to January 2021 and is displayed on Behance.
