Fontaines D.C.'s Grian Chatten Wears Cwmbran Celtic Shirt at Reading, Boosting Sales

At Reading Festival on Friday, Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten wore a green and white-striped Cwmbran Celtic FC away shirt during the band's headline set, causing pre-sales of the shirt to nearly double. The semi-professional Welsh football club expressed shock and gratitude on social media, noting that sales support both the club and grassroots music venues. The shirt, featuring Mogwai as a sponsor, is part of a 2026/27 season kit collaboration with four bands: Super Furry Animals, Panic Shack, Loose Articles, and Mogwai. Chatten praised the club's volunteer-run ethos and solidarity with independent venues, while club joint commercial manager Matt Jarrett, who also owns a record store in Newport, revealed that a friend working as monitor engineer for Fontaines D.C. facilitated getting a size 3XL to Chatten. Jarrett admitted they never expected him to wear it on stage, but the performance in front of tens of thousands, amplified by social media, led to a surge in orders. Ten percent of shirt sale profits will go to the Music Venues Trust.
