Fontainebleau Exhibition Revives Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI's Final Autumn, 240 Years Later

From October 11, 2026, to January 25, 2027, the exhibition titled "Marie-Antoinette et Louis XVI à Fontainebleau, Splendeur et douceur de vivre" will take place at the Château de Fontainebleau, commemorating 240 years since the royal couple's final visit. Between 1770 and 1786, Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette made eleven trips to Fontainebleau, with their last stay occurring from October 10 to November 16, 1786. The exhibition aims to recreate the celebratory ambiance through immersive experiences, such as a queen's ball and performances by Thomas Hengelbrock. Marie-Christine Labourdette intends to emphasize Marie-Antoinette's character. Notable items on loan from the Château de Versailles include a bust of Marie-Antoinette and a plaque depicting Louis XVI's hunts.
