Fondation Bullukian Builds Lyon Exhibition Around Nadja Anane's Julia Butterfly Hill Film

exhibition · 2026-10-13

Running at the Fondation Bullukian on place Bellecour in Lyon through 19 December 2026, the group exhibition Des faits comme défis takes Nadja Anane's film La Nuit du Papillon as its anchor. Anane shot the work on a platform at a height of forty-five metres in the Cévennes, and it addresses Julia Butterfly Hill, who spent 738 days in a California sequoia between 1997 and 1999 to stop the tree from being felled. Fourteen artists are presented alongside the film. Léa Habourdin contributes 138 photographs dyed with indigo and artichoke. Fabien Mérelle shows a three-metre bronze in which a man turns into a tree. Lélia Demoisy presents two hundred young plants grown from the seeds of a thousand-year-old cedar. A photograph by Gina Pane, Terre protégée II, is also included. The exhibition opened on 19 September 2026 at 26 place Bellecour, 69002 Lyon. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm, with free admission.
