Florentine Gallerist Carlo Frittelli Dies at 91, Leaving Legacy in Contemporary Art

Carlo Frittelli, a prominent Florentine gallerist and collector, has died at age 91. Born in 1935, he was initially an artist and collector before establishing Frittelli Arte Contemporanea in 2006 in the Novoli district of Florence. The gallery became a significant venue for post-war and contemporary art, featuring Florentine avant-garde artists like Vinicio Berti and later generations. Frittelli was also a civic figure, running for city council in 2024 with proposals for a contemporary art museum. His son Simone now directs the gallery, which continues operations in Florence and recently expanded to Milan. Florentine officials, including Mayor Sara Funaro, have praised his role in making the city a hub for modern art.
