Florence's Giardino della Gherardesca Blends Art, History, and Cocktails

The Giardino della Gherardesca, one of Florence's largest gardens, was originally designed by Giuliano da Sangallo for Bartolomeo Scala, Chancellor of the Florentine Republic. It later passed to the Gherardesca family and was transformed into an English-style park in the 19th century, featuring rare trees like a giant yew. Since 2008, the complex, including Palazzo Del Nero, has been part of the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze. The Galleria Frilli has curated contemporary art exhibitions in the garden, including Bjorn Okholm Skaarup's bronze animal sculptures, such as 'Hippo Tightrope Walker' and 'Rhino Harlequin,' dressed by theatrical tailor Gianfrancesco Giofrè. The Bar Berni and Atrium Bar offer themed cocktail experiences. Atrium Bar's 'The Tasting Globe,' created by assistant bar manager Edoardo Sandri, features drinks inspired by global cuisines, including 'Spaghetti Fritti' and 'Huître Bretonne,' blending mixology with culinary and artistic references.
