Florence Morissette: From Intuition to Transformation

Based in Montreal, painter Florence Morissette draws inspiration from nature, intuition, and her own journey of personal growth. Her artistic path began in childhood, immersed in natural surroundings, and evolved through fashion design studies, a modeling career in Europe, the United States, and Japan, and additional training in hair and makeup. A significant turning point occurred when she learned from colorist Francine Labelle, which shifted her focus to painting. Morissette’s work highlights the physicality of paint, utilizing palette knives for textured layers. She describes her creative state as an 'alpha condition' of deep focus and surrender. Influenced by Impressionism, Expressionism, and Fauvism—especially Paul Gauguin—her notable piece, 'Artemis' (157 × 117 cm), is a collage representing her evolution as an artist. As she nears retirement, she intends to enhance her visibility, delve into printmaking and collage, and produce an artist book.
