FLASHS Survey Finds 66% of French Parents Feel Judged Through Their Child's Class Photo
An online survey conducted by FLASHS for Cheerz between July 7 and 8, 2026, involving 1,000 French parents of children in maternelle, primaire, or collège, indicates that the annual class photograph highlights parental concerns. A striking 90% of parents prioritize their child's appearance, while 66% feel their child is judged based on their image. Additionally, 63% discovered the photo only after it was taken, and 59% find themselves comparing their child to peers. Two-thirds purchase both individual and group photos, with 83% of preschool parents treating first-day photos as a tradition, which decreases to 62% in collège. Most photos remain private: 42% are stored on phones, 32% shared with family, 20% printed, and only 5% shared online. Sociologist Irène Jonas remarked that children's attire often reflects their social background.
