Finnish firm Elementic launches MO6, a carbon-storing wall tile made from forestry waste
Elementic, a Finnish firm, has introduced MO6, a wall-surfacing product derived from lignin, a by-product of the forestry sector. Debuting at the Habitare trade fair during Helsinki Design Week, MO6 is touted as the planet's most carbon-negative building material, containing 90% carbon. These thick, lightweight tiles are available in various finishes and are created using a patented method that eliminates impurities from lignin. General manager Johanna Normiala likened the process to baking dough 'like a cake.' Launched in May, MO6 captures around 2.4 kilograms of CO2 for every kilogram produced and is intended for dry indoor environments, particularly in hotels and restaurants, with aspirations for structural brick applications.
