Figure di donna: Sgarbi's Collection of Female Figures Opens at Castello dei Clavesana in Andora

The exhibition "Figure di donna. Tesori d'arte dalla Fondazione Cavallini Sgarbi" opened at the Castello dei Clavesana in Andora, Italy, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi with Pietro Di Natale. It is the first chapter of a project to bring works from the Fondazione Cavallini Sgarbi to Andora over the years. The show presents 35 exceptional works spanning over four centuries, focusing on female figures in mythology, biblical stories, sainthood, allegory, and portraiture. Featured artists include Joost de Pape (Giusto Fiammingo), Artemisia Gentileschi, Giuseppe Caletti, Pietro Ricchi, Flaminio Torri, Giuseppe Moriani, Francesco Prata, Orsola Maddalena Caccia, Alceo Dossena, Ignaz Stern, Giuseppe Bernardino Bison, Simone Cantarini, Guido Cagnacci, and Renato Bertelli. The exhibition highlights lesser-known artists, challenging the notion that fame equates to quality. Sgarbi's catalog essay, published by La Nave di Teseo, includes reflections on Artemisia's Cleopatra as a manifesto of female bodily freedom. The show also pays homage to Sgarbi's mother, Rina Cavallini, whose domestic collection in Ro Ferrarese inspired the exhibition's character. The display includes works such as Artemisia's Cleopatra, Guido Cagnacci's Allegoria del Tempo, and a ceramic Medusa by Renato Bertelli depicting the Marchesa Casati.
