Fernando Garbellotto's 'Fractal Net Singing' Screened at Casa degli Artisti

On June 11, 2026, Casa degli Artisti in Milan hosted a screening of Fernando Garbellotto's 2010 video "Fractal Net Singing," followed by a discussion with critic Alberto Mugnaini. The work, set in the park of Villa Freschi-Piccolomini in Cordovado, Pordenone, features monumental Fractal Nets—lightweight, complex structures of knots and connections—interacting with the landscape and ten young performers (four men, six women) evoking satyrs from Greek tragedy. The video premiered at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011 and later at the Venice International Film Festival. Directed by Giancarlo Marinelli, it includes a soundtrack by Renato Miani with vocals by pop star Elisa. Garbellotto, born in Portogruaro in 1955 and active between Milan and Venice, developed his Fractal Nets in 2006 as a synthesis of two decades of research influenced by Benoît Mandelbrot's chaos theory. The work explores reality as a network of relations, anticipating contemporary physics ideas articulated by Carlo Rovelli. A publication on the project was released by Silvana Editoriale in 2011.
