Fernand Léger's 'O Disco' Arrives at Pinacoteca de São Paulo in Unprecedented Loan
Starting September 5, the Pinacoteca de São Paulo showcases Fernand Léger's 1918 artwork 'O Disco' ('The Disc') as part of the 'Pinacoteca: Acervo' exhibition at the Pina Luz building. This piece is on loan from the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid and is displayed alongside creations by Tarsila do Amaral, Flávio de Carvalho, Vicente do Rego Monteiro, and Emiliano Di Cavalcanti, emphasizing the transatlantic impact on Brazilian modernism. 'O Disco' features a composition of intersecting circles and geometric shapes, embodying Léger's themes post-World War I. Tarsila, who studied with Léger in 1923, was influenced by his style. The exhibition is open until December 7, with free admission on Saturdays, as part of 'O Thyssen Está de Visita', in collaboration with Brazilian partners.
