Féerie at Moulin Rouge: Four-Tableau Revue with 1,000 Costumes and Giant Aquarium

Since December 1999, the Moulin Rouge in Paris has staged Féerie, a revue in four tableaux performed nightly at 9pm and 11pm. The production features around sixty dancers, 1,000 costumes made of feathers and rhinestones, a giant aquarium, and a closing French cancan. The curtain rises on a red prologue, followed by nearly two hours of four scenes: the Moulin Rouge of yesterday and today, a pirate ship bound for Indonesia, a circus stopover, and Paris from 1900 to the present, paying homage to Parisian women. Between tableaux, international acts perform, and a dancer dives into the onstage aquarium. Italian artists painted the sets, the original music was recorded by 80 musicians and 60 choristers, and the costumes are produced in the Moulin's own art workshops, including plumassier, bootmaker, and embroiderer. The revue can be seen alone, with a half-bottle of champagne, or preceded by dinner. It continues the tradition of F-titled shows dating back to Frou-Frou in 1963. The troupe of 95 artists from 18 countries now performs as the Janet Pharaoh Dance Company. The Moulin Rouge is located at 82 boulevard de Clichy, 75018 Paris, near Blanche metro station.
