Federico Stefanovich's Salina collection draws on marine anatomy

Federico Stefanovich, a Mexican designer named a 2025 Wallpaper* Ascending Star, has launched Salina, a lighting and furniture collection presented by Mexico City's Ago Projects gallery. The collection is inspired by the morphology of shells and carapaces, interpreted through an abstract lens to capture the balance between fragility and strength. Stefanovich uses sand-cast bronze for structural elements, chosen for its ability to create intricate, hollow forms that accommodate electrical components. Lampshades are made of fiberglass shaped in 3D-printed molds, chosen for its semi-translucency and tendency to produce air bubble imperfections that mimic shell surfaces. The designer emphasizes asymmetry and engineering, stating that balance and structural logic are as important as visual outcome. Stefanovich's process combines handmade techniques with digital tools, celebrating traces of making rather than concealing them.
