Fashion Designer Transitions to Sculptural Furniture Making in Los Angeles

Sam Klemick, a former fashion designer for brands including Rag & Bone and Free People, has shifted her career to creating sculptural furniture in Los Angeles. After 15 years in fashion, she was motivated to change direction by concerns over industry waste and factory conditions, influenced by the documentary 'The True Cost.' In 2019, she began woodworking classes at LA Woodshop, eventually committing to furniture making full-time in May 2024. Her work, which includes pieces like the Orb cocktail table and Sweater chair, blends digital tools with handcraft, using materials such as red oak and salvaged Douglas fir. Her designs have attracted clients like designers Kelly Behun and Jake Arnold, and her pieces have been sold through Kelly Wearstler's Side Hustle Gallery. Klemick is currently developing her first full living room collection.
