Farsettiarte Presents Renato Guttuso Retrospective in Cortina

From August 1 to September 13, 2026, Farsettiarte in Cortina d'Ampezzo hosts "Renato Guttuso. Opere dal 1937 al 1980," a survey spanning over four decades of the Italian master's career. Born in Bagheria, Sicily, in 1912, Guttuso moved to Rome in the early 1930s, engaging with the Scuola Romana and developing a realist style that challenged fascist conventions. Influenced by Giacomo Manzù, Renato Birolli, Pablo Picasso, Gustave Courbet, Théodore Géricault, and Vincent van Gogh, he joined the Corrente movement and later the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti. The exhibition traces his evolution from neocubist tensions to a freer, lyrical realism. Key works include "Forchetta, bicchiere e tenaglia" (1946), a neocubist still life; "La grande lavandaia" (1947), a synthetic depiction of labor; "Interno con stufa" (1948), a rigorous domestic interior; "Natura morta (Cestello e libri)" (1959), a vibrant composition; "Damigiana e case" (1961), merging volumetric solidity with expressive brushwork; and "Edicola" (1965), an urban scene chosen as the show's symbol. The exhibition offers an accessible entry into Guttuso's continuous formal research and his commitment to everyday life.
