Farmer J Opens NYC Flagship with Holland Harvey Design

Farmer J, a London-based fast-casual chain known for sustainably sourced food, has opened its first U.S. location in Midtown Manhattan. The 3,000-square-foot space, designed by London architecture firm Holland Harvey, marks the firm's U.S. debut as well. The interior emphasizes transparency over the typical assembly-line layout: the prep kitchen sits directly behind the storefront glazing, topped with green drapery and bronze signage, while a walk-in fridge with a large viewing window reinforces the brand's commitment to food transparency. A row of shelving separates the kitchen from customers, offering glimpses into food preparation and serving as a pickup point. Farmer J's packaging is 95 percent biodegradable, and ingredients are sourced from American farmers. The design departs from the corporate feel of competitors like sweetgreen and Dig Inn.
