Farid Rueda Unveils Sibari Mural for Reviving Pentedattilo in Calabria

Mexican artist Farid Rueda has completed a new mural titled Sibari in the historic village of Pentedattilo, Calabria, as part of the inaugural edition of the Reviving Pentedattilo festival. The artwork depicts a horse transformed into Pegasus, inspired by an ancient local legend involving a horse and the area's deep connections to Greek history. Rueda explained, "So we gave this horse wings and transformed it into Pegasus." The title Sibari references the encounter between legend, place, and reinvention. For Rueda, the wings symbolize a wish for the festival to take flight, grow, attract visitors, and contribute to the lives of local residents. The mural incorporates details photographed around the site and input from the owner of the house where it was painted. Pentedattilo, situated beneath Monte Calvario, is named for its distinctive five-fingered rock formation. The village, part of the municipality of Melito di Porto Salvo in the province of Reggio Calabria, suffered significant depopulation following the 1783 earthquake. Recent restoration and cultural initiatives have revitalized its stone lanes. Sibari turns the horse into an emblem of movement and renewal, fitting for a village and project focused on revival.
