Faraz Shariat's Berlinale Winner 'Staatsschutz' Hits Theaters

Faraz Shariat's film 'Staatsschutz' (State Protection), which won at the Berlinale, is now showing in theaters. The legal thriller follows Seyo Kim, a young German prosecutor played by Chen Emilie Yan, who is attacked with a Molotov cocktail while cycling under a bridge. The assailant, a motorcyclist in black with a closed visor, escapes. Seyo survives and returns to work, but finds the investigation into her case is slow: files are sealed, witnesses are intimidated. When she starts her own inquiries, her superior, Chief Prosecutor Forch (Arnd Klawitter), questions her. The film depicts the growing influence of neo-Nazis and aims to raise a fist in the anti-fascist struggle. The review appears in the current issue of Der Freitag.
