FAMM Arquitectura Completes 998 m² Plaza Pochote Commercial Center in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

architecture-design · 2026-10-22

FAMM Arquitectura designed Plaza Pochote, a 998 m² commercial development completed in 2024 along the main road of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Rather than consolidating the program into a single continuous retail frontage, the architects split the scheme into two built volumes, creating an open plaza between them. That interstitial space becomes the project's principal organizing element. The approach responds to the predominantly linear development pattern along the roadside and to scarce public space in a fast-growing coastal context. Mariano Mesalles and Felipe Apéstegui led the design team. Thibault Cartier photographed the project. The work falls under public buildings, commercial architecture and retail categories, and was submitted by the project team.
