Expo Chicago's curated focus drives sales to Midwestern collectors and institutions
Expo Chicago, taking place at Navy Pier until April 12, showcases curated sections led by director Kate Sierzputowski. The Profile sector, featuring 21 presentations, was curated by Essence Harden, while the Focus section, highlighting 52 emerging galleries, was organized by Katie A. Pfohl. Louise Bernard curated the Embodiment section, showcasing artists commissioned for the Obama Presidential Center Museum, set to open in June. Significant sales include María Magdalena Campos-Pons' piece for $22,000, Torkwase Dyson's Scalar 2 for $55,000, and various works from Monique Meloche. This year’s fair has 40 fewer galleries than last, with enhancements in layout and lighting. Sierzputowski emphasized outreach in the Midwest, and Expo Chicago was acquired by Frieze in 2023, collaborating with 12 Korean galleries.
