Evgeny Antufiev's Dual Exhibitions at Morandi's Homes in Bologna and Grizzana
Two exhibitions, 'Luce congelata' and 'Luce che proietta ombra', are on view at Casa Morandi in Bologna and the Casa Museo di Giorgio Morandi in Grizzana, respectively, until September 13, 2026. The shows pair contemporary artist Evgeny Antufiev (born 1986 in Kyzyl) with the legacy of Giorgio Morandi (1890–1964). Rather than offering a philological rereading, the projects stage a confrontation between two irreconcilable poetics, creating a contrast that highlights the shared necessity of questioning the mystery of objects' presence. At the Casa Museo, Antufiev responds to the intimate, time-frozen atmosphere by working through subtraction and sedimentation, using aluminum as a primary medium to evoke dusty surfaces, along with silver, lead, bronze, and lapis lazuli, suggesting ritual, ornament, and archaeology. In Bologna, the exhibition departs from Morandi's engravings, recognizing an unexpected darkness, and features mosaics and sculptures in bronze and stone that invade the space, avoiding aesthetic harmonization. The tension allows a new interpretation of Morandi, with weight and density becoming counterparts. The exhibitions are curated to create an unpredictable meeting place of opposing forces, sparking new perceptions. The shows are supported by galleries z2o Sara Zanin in Rome and Emalin in London, with photos by Ela Bialkowska OKNO studio and Carlo Favero.
