Eva Chapkin: Dislocation at Arsmonitor, Bucharest

Eva Chapkin (b. 2003, Chișinău) presents her solo exhibition "Dislocation" at Arsmonitor in Bucharest, Romania, curated by Lina Țărmure. The show features black-and-white photographs in matte black frames, manually edited color Polaroids, photo transfers onto plates, and video works including "On the White Walls of My Dream House." Chapkin, who grew up in Tiraspol, Transnistria, and relocated through Bulgaria, Constanța, and Bucharest, uses photography as a prosthetic for belonging. Her work explores dislocation as a fracture rather than displacement, with the body as an index of instability. The exhibition draws on Warburgian logic of images as mnemonic archives. Chapkin also writes verse and short prose, which intertwine with her visual practice. The series "A Dog's Life, My Life (1-7)" (2026) presents performative images in irregular frames, made in Tiraspol.
