Eurovision Steadicam Displayed at Science and Media Museum

A Steadicam used in Eurovision performances has been acquired by the Science and Media Museum in Bradford for its exhibition 'Setting the Stage: 70 Years of the Eurovision Song Contest'. The body-worn camera, known for its smooth, steady shots, is now part of the museum's permanent collection. The exhibition highlights the Steadicam's role in iconic Eurovision moments, such as France's 2024 entry with Slimane performing 'Mon Amour', where the camera captured intimate interactions, and Belarus's 2009 performance where the operator rode a Segway to achieve a dramatic traveling shot. Displaying the Steadicam posed challenges due to its weight and movable parts; the museum used discreet wiring to suspend it from above, allowing visitors to see the full apparatus. The Steadicam was previously owned by a motorcycle race videographer.
