Eugenio Tibaldi's BENU Phoenix Project Moves from Rebibbia Prison to Fondazione Pastificio Cerere

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The BENU exhibition by Eugenio Tibaldi is set to launch at the Fondazione Pastificio Cerere in Rome on 23 September 2023, under the curation of Marcello Smarrelli, and will be on display until 28 November 2026. Sponsored by Fondazione Pastificio Cerere and Fondazione Severino in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo, BENU originated with the involvement of incarcerated women, culminating in two permanent light sculptures that will be unveiled during the 2025 Jubilee, attended by President Sergio Mattarella. The exhibition showcases over a thousand individual paper phoenixes crafted with RUFA Masterclass participants, a flag from Progetto Abito, a tattoo on Barbara Sales, a luminous prototype, and a video by Tibaldi and Lorenzo Morandi. An outdoor campaign by APA combines Tibaldi's visuals with a poem from a detainee. Additionally, a volume by Magonza features contributions from various writers. The title BENU refers to the Egyptian entity associated with the god Ra, representing themes of death and rebirth.
