Etruscan Bronzes from the Corazzi Collection Return to Italy After 200 Years at Fondazione Rovati, Milan
The Fondazione Luigi Rovati in Milan is hosting "Gli Etruschi e l'Olanda. A/R dei bronzi Corazzi" until 4 October 2026, temporarily reuniting Italy with the Etruscan bronze collection of Galeotto Corazzi, which left the country in 1826 for the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden, the Netherlands. The exhibition, organized with the MAEC in Cortona, marks 200 years since the collection's departure and 40 years since the Progetto Etruschi. The Corazzi bronzes, sold for 12,000 scudi to the Dutch, were the first major Etruscan collection to cross the Alps. The display includes votive statuettes, incense burners, and ritual tools, with the Statuetta di fanciullo con oca as its centerpiece. The show also features 18th-century publications such as De Etruria Regali, commissioned by the Grand Duke of Tuscany and published in the 18th century, highlighting the modern vision of the Etruscans. The collection was assembled by Galeotto Corazzi, a Cortona aristocrat and antiquarian, and was noted for its quality and quantity. The Accademia Etrusca, founded in Cortona in 1727, is also part of the historical context. The exhibition is curated by Emma Sedini and is on view at Fondazione Luigi Rovati, Corso Venezia, 52, Milan.
