Este Lewis's Buy-Write Diary and Heart Gardens at Triangolo, Cremona

Triangolo gallery in Cremona presents 'Time to plant hearts', the inaugural solo exhibition with life artist Este Lewis, curated by Laurel Gitlen. For fifteen years, Lewis has documented her online purchases in Buy-Write, an expansive diary-receipt project that uses gift-note fields for poetic messaging. The exhibition also features Floral Toilet Paper Garden, where patterned toilet paper becomes wallpaper, and the titular installation calling for an international movement to plant heart gardens. Lewis extends Buy-Write into flower fields, planting heart-shaped plants in Italy and at sites closer to home, including her late brother Hesh Halper's grave. Halper was known for chalking hearts on New York City streets. Lewis's work critiques consumerist culture while reclaiming it as a space for interpersonal connection. The exhibition includes a catalogue of recent acquisitions, such as a Joyce Mansour collection, Anne Carson's Nox, and bleeding hearts from a Brescia nursery. Lewis's practice aligns with artists like Linda Mary Montano and Hanne Darboven, using shopping as a confessional and spiritual practice.
