Esquina Nativa Center by TACO Preserves Vegetation in Mérida

The Esquina Nativa Center, a project focused on commercial architecture in Mérida, Mexico, is being developed by TACO taller de arquitectura contextual, with Carlos Patrón Ibarra as the lead architect and Kristell Guillen as part of the design team. Curated by Valentina Díaz, this initiative spans 502 square meters and is expected to be finished by 2026. The design concept reimagines the interplay between commercial structures, landscape, and public areas by maintaining the existing flora and constructing around it. The arrangement of mature trees influences the layout, guides movement, and provides shaded areas that enhance the experience of the complex. Located at the former Cholul nursery's corner, photographs are credited to Estudio Zeta. The architects highlighted the crucial choice to retain vegetation, which informs the overall design.
