Erwan Bouroullec's Tyvek sofa debuts at Værktøj 3 sewing-machine exhibition

exhibition · 2026-06-15

The third edition of Værktøj, an annual exhibition during Copenhagen's 3 Days of Design festival, challenged designers to create one-off objects using a sewing machine. Erwan Bouroullec presented a sofa with a wooden frame and Tyvek fabric seat. Foster + Partners contributed a lamp named Lomme (Danish for pocket) with a stitched seam structure. Other participants included Louise Campbell, Jonas Trampedach, Frederik Gustav, Lærke Ryom, Kasper Salto, Michael Antrobus, Sia Hurtigkarl, and Pearson Lloyd. Works ranged from Campbell's rolled paper-and-textile Peep lampshades to Ryom's ruched lounge chair. Salto reinterpreted a pressed-wood table from the previous year as a stool with upcycled vintage fabric. Antrobus stitched leather into a sling seat, while Hurtigkarl used discarded sails for a swing seat. Værktøj was founded in 2024 by Frederik Weber, Gustav Dupont, Trampedach, Salto, and Antrobus to explore how tools shape design. Previous editions focused on hydraulic presses and profile bending machines. The exhibition ran June 10–12, 2026.
