Ernst Yohji Jaeger's 'Calamondin' at Crèvecœur, Paris

Crèvecœur gallery presents 'Calamondin', a solo exhibition by Ernst Yohji Jaeger, at 5 & 7 rue de Beaune, Paris, from June 11 to July 25, 2026. The show is named after a calamondin tree in Jaeger's studio that nearly died but recovered, becoming a metaphor for artistic process. Jaeger, born in 1990 in Germany and based in Vienna, discusses the tree's symbolism in an interview with Thom Oosterhof. The exhibition features paintings created slowly, emphasizing cultivation over forced production. Jaeger recounts a dream in Japan where his name was erased from a mirror, prompting the question 'Who are you?'—the starting point for the exhibition. The tree, after a harsh autumn, lost its leaves but survived; Jaeger cooked and ate its fruit, ending a cycle. Upon returning from Japan, the tree had flowers and later bore fruit as he finished the works. Jaeger stresses that important things cannot be forced but must be cultivated, and sometimes something must die first.
