Eric Parry's One London to Become UK's Joint Tallest Building by 2033

Eric Parry Architects has unveiled One London, a 309.6m, 74-storey super-tall tower in the City of London, set to rival the Shard as the UK's joint tallest building upon completion in 2033. Formerly known as 1 Undershaft, the project is developed by Aroland Holdings and Stanhope, with construction planned to start in 2028. The building will be primarily commercial workspace for 7,000–10,000 people, but features extensive public amenities including an 11th-floor public garden, the highest bar in London, and education spaces operated by the London Museum on the top two floors. Parry emphasized a civic rather than commercial vision for the top, inspired by taking his child's class up the Heron tower. The design incorporates weathering steel 'giant redwood' pillars, passive shading, and a white non-glass facade for longevity. Sustainability targets include BREEAM and NABERS UK ratings, with a 960% Biodiversity Net Gain (Parry claims 1,000%). The building sits at the heart of the Eastern City Cluster, a concept Parry describes as uniquely English, contrasting with Canary Wharf or La Défense. The project evolved over 11 years, post-pandemic, responding to the City of London Plan 2040's need for office space and occupant wellness.
