Eric Hallquist Builds Dark-Fantasy Universe of Haunted Forests and Monumental Ruins
Eric Hallquist, a digital concept artist and illustrator, is creating an innovative dark-fantasy realm filled with character designs, eerie woodlands, grand ruins, enigmatic guardians, and remnants of a shattered world. His artistic style emphasizes dense woodlands, mist, intricate organic shapes, profound shadows, and muted morning light, alongside beings and structures that merge the natural with the supernatural. The atmosphere he crafts is dark yet not solely violent or grotesque; it is reflective, with landscapes that conceal secrets, dynamic silence, and an unsettling beauty. Hallquist's most compelling pieces treat the environment as an active character, with forests acting as living entities that can shelter or threaten. This approach is fundamental to dark fantasy, where setting holds narrative significance alongside heroes and monsters. His work, which includes character design and illustration, features ruins that serve as warnings from the past and ambiguous guardians. This work was showcased on Design You Trust.
