Enzo Enea Brings Living Trees to Art Basel 2026 with 'The Living Fragment'

Landscape architect Enzo Enea has installed 'The Living Fragment,' an immersive installation of mature trees, at Art Basel 2026 in the fair's Rundhof. The project, drawn from Enea's Enea Tree Museum in Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland, rescues trees from construction sites and presents them as living sculptures. Enea, who has been rescuing trees for over 25 years, argues that nature deserves the same preservation attention as art and cultural heritage. The installation features trees alongside works by artists Jaume Plensa, Sylvie Fleury, and John Giorno. Enea describes trees as 'living sculptures shaped by time, climate, and human care,' and notes that bees and butterflies have already appeared in the courtyard. The project aims to create a space for contemplation amid the fair's intensity.
